Box
Elder
is a maple species common to the southeast U.S. of minimal commercial
value. It is usually an uninteresting pale color with little
figure, but occasionally it will explode with briliant flaming red
inclusions. If you have a piece with this spectacular color be
sure you don't put it in a south facing window because it is
photoreactive, and ultraviolet light will cause it to fade. |

"Void but not Null" Box Elder Bud
Vase
#20455 This
brilliantly colored vase was carved from a section near the heart of
the box elder tree rescued from Ellijay, Georia. The void in the
wall of the vessel was the result
of whatever killed the tree forcing
its removal. The natural color was bleached to lighten the lights
while leaving the brilliant red exposed. The black inside
serves to dramatize the natural void. A glass insert is
included for use with real flowers and water. $325. Reserve
